Kairos Prison Ministry

Kairos is a lay-led, interdenominational Christian ministry in which men and women volunteers bring Christ's love and forgiveness to prisoners and their families. By sharing the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ, Kairos hopes to change hearts, transform lives and impact the world. The Kairos programs take the participants on a journey that demonstrates the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ. The programs involve a structured model that includes the Weekend experience, followed by guests or participants gathering regularly for support, accountability, and prayer.

Get Involved

There are several ways you may participate and support this Kairos ministry.

We need volunteers, both inside and support team. Training meetings begin two months before the inside weekend. If you are interested, please contact John Porter or David Roney

We need your prayers for the success of the mission. We are seeking 24 hour prayer coverage.

Please pray for:

  • 42 Residents for the Weekend
  • The Warden and Staff
  • The Chaplain
  • Support Team
  • Our Host Church
  • That the Will of God be Accomplished

The total costs of an Inside Weekend can be substantial. We are thankful that Redland includes some money in its budget for Kairos! If you would like to donate above and beyond your regular tithes and offerings, please do. Sponsor a Bible for $25 or a cross for $6. Any amount will help.

Checks may be made out to:   KAIROS of MARYLAND

Visible Agape is artwork which is posted on the walls of the community room for the participants to read throughout the Weekend. Signed placemats and posters made by children (first name only and age) are especially treasured by prisoners. These handmade pieces of art are powerful tools of the Holy Spirit that can break open a lifetime of sorrow and let the love of Christ in.

Guidelines for Placemats and Posters:

  • Placemats decorated by children/youth
  • Include child’s first name only and age
  • Posters made by anyone
  • Include the name of the group and the group’s signatures (if kids, first name only and age)
  • Simple message of God’s love
  • Preferred size is 11 x 17
  • No stickers, glue, sparkles, etc.

Another form of Agape is to write letters from God’s family to the inmate expressing God’s love.

Guidelines for Letters:

  • Address to “Dear Brother in Christ”
  • No last names
  • Don’t seal the envelope
  • Short note from children has an incredible impact for Christ!
  • Children sign first name only and age
  • No stickers, glue, sparkles, etc.
