Upward Concessions Volunteer Opportunities

Hello friends,

If you haven’t already signed up to volunteer this year with Upward basketball ministry, here is a great opportunity to help out with Saturday game-day concessions!

Since we have worked together in the kitchen in the past, I thought you guys and gals would be great people to check with to see if you are available to volunteer (I am also open to suggestions if you feel I should forward this to additional people).  So basically we need, at minimum, help in the kitchen from 11:00 to 1:00 while lunch is served.  Optimally, that would be 10:00 to 2:00 for setup and cleanup, but not absolutely necessary.

We will probably stick with hot dogs, hamburgers, french fries, and maybe one or two other prepared items, nothing hugely complicated, but fun and hopefully tasty!

If you are able to help, here is an online signup.

If you would prefer, you could alternatively check  the dates below and just reply back with any slots you would like to sign up for and I will update the online thing-a-ma-jig.   And please feel free to forward this to anyone you think would be interested (including teens  16+ yo).

Thank you!

-Jay M.

Fuel Sunday, Nov. 18

Our teenagers are living in unprecedented times. They face a staggering cultural and spiritual onslaught, and our students are challenged daily with pressures that seem to be overwhelming. Trying to raise Christ-following young people in this culture can feel daunting, but together we can  invest in the lives of these students and give them a strong foundation of faith that will last a lifetime.

Parents of 11th-12th grade students

Remember, you are invited to join us in the Youth House starting at 5:45 pm this Sunday to discuss graduation and how to guide 11th-12th graders toward post-high school life.  You’ll also get to hear how we are partnering with you in the process.

Fuel topic

This week, our group finishes an introduction to apologetics (led by one of our youth!) by talking about the importance of being confident in sharing what we believe. Many people fear sharing their faith for fear of not saying the right thing or not knowing enough. Some are afraid of looking foolish or are uncertain about stepping into a difficult conversation. Our students will cover topics about…

  1. Why we need to share our faith
  2. How we can be prepared to explain what we believe
  3. How our personal stories of faith are so powerful.

Here are some questions you might want to ask this week to keep the dialogue going:

  • When do you feel most confident talking to other people about your faith? When do you feel least confident?
  • What does it mean to shine your light for people to see? What might this look like in your sphere of influence?
  • What would give you greater confidence in sharing your faith boldly?

Thank you once again for allowing us to partner with you in preparing the next
generation of Christ-followers. Have a spectacular week!
